We work through the US Soccer Grassroots Methodology which has been created out of two simple, and studied, needs of players - To have fun, and to develop. The methodology is rooted in the players playing the game as much as possible to gain game experience, but to also keep the focus on them as players. The methodology also challenges coaches to focus on the players, to challenge them within the game and to not break down every moment with long-winded talking. It's a skill, but if your players are playing in practice with a coach that is supporting and challenging, not yelling and players standing still, then you've found a good environment for your player.
