Fall 2022 Weekend News + Junior Coaches, Refs, and Standings

Junior Coaches

Please be mindful, junior coaches (under 18) may NOT coach a game alone. They must be joined on the sideline by a valid adult SFYS coach. Violation of this rule will, at minimum, result in an automatic forfeit of said game.

 

 

Referees

First we want to thank all the coaches and teams who took our email on referee abuse last week to heart. There were multiple positive reports from refs this weekend highlighting how coaches and parents stood up and supported them. Please don’t let this be a unique weekend!

 

That said - Ref abuse is not an issue unique to our leagues. Just this last weekend there was a serious case of ref abuse at a NorCal game that led the ref to hand back all subsequent games that weekend including SFYS games. Just like you we want all our games covered. The best way to do this is to let refs know that SFYS is a safe place for them to work. Please continue to help us make an atmosphere that is good for the players, coaches, supporters and refs.

 

 

STANDINGS

Have you noticed your standings and scores change? This could be because we have been entering forfeits and enforcing our mercy rule in the recreational league.

  • Forfeits
    • Forfeiting team loses 3-0
  • Mercy rule
    • Recreational teams may only win by a maximum of 5 goals

 

So, why are the scores being changed now?

Changing scores is a manual process so we apologize for the delay in these updates, but they are an integral part of the season and to reflect fairly on the competition you play each weekend.

 

Is a score missing from one of your games? It is the responsibility of the coach or team admin to enter the score. This helpful link will help you input scores if you are unsure how to.

 

What if you had a game canceled due to a field closure? Please leave it blank for now as we determine the steps for postponing games within SQWAD.
